Spring is finally here, we hope, and Canadian citizens are taking off their parkas, removing their winter boots, and taking off their gloves for the winter, actually, a lot of us here in Prince George, the hardy sort, have been wearing spring wear for a few weeks now.
Citizens in the sleepy cities of Brockville, Ontario have for a few years now had a traditional thing they get together to do this time of year, many cities all over North America and the world will be doing the same thing, with the leaving of the snow and the coming of spring.
They coordinate and organize a city wide clean up to get their treasured little city ready for spring and the tourists who will soon be traveling through as the weather warms. They gather to eat hot dogs, talk about the weather and life, but the main goal is to spend the day making their city presentable, they take pride in their beautiful city and want to keep it that way.
Normally every year about 700 citizens gather to take part in the yearly event, but this year they had an unprecedented turn out of close to 3,000 Earth Sheppard’s who showed up to lend a helping hand in making their city beautiful.
Sponsored every year by Tim Horton’s, they do more then make the world’s best coffee, this year over 1,000 garbage bags were filled with litter and garbage, and because of the added help they had to add additional sites then the ones they had scheduled for cleaning this year.
The growth of Earth conscious humans has increased in the last few years, more individuals are rallying to Mother Earth’s defence, stepping forward to do their individual part in helping to keep her health and clean. All over the world more and more of the young are becoming involved in the battle for Mother Earth and the future of humankind.
Here in Prince George, red neck central, the movement has caught on too, as it has around many North American cities. This year we will organize and gather and I will go down and do my part to make Prince George beautiful. I’ll take my son and nephew with me, and any other youngsters I can interest in the cause, having other young ones involved always makes it easier to get other kids involved, kids communicate among one another better then adults to kids, if were going to save the planet its vital to get the next generation involved and I like to think I do my part.
Their energy and minds are vital to visualizing, creating and implementing new ideas that always seem to spring from the young mind, easier then the experienced mind. They will be the saviours of Planet Earth and the human race, if were survive the problems currently creating all the fear in the world, they will have to be the catalyst to affect positive change, the rest of us are probably too set in our ways.
