Do you feel tired even after what should have been a refreshing 7 or 8 hours of sleep, then you may have what a growing 4 percent of men and 2 percent of women are believed to have, sleep apnea. A sleeping disorder where a person who is sleeping may stop breathing multiple times for more than 10 seconds during the night, resulting in the person achieving a poor nights rest that leaves them tired and drowsy during their daylight activities.
Recently, doctors have been studying an extreme form of sleep apnea that is being seen more often in patients afflicted with sleep apnea; referred to as Obesity-hypoventilation syndrome that leaves sleepers unable to rid their bodies of carbon dioxide while they sleep so it accumulates, resulting in possible heart failure, according to specialists in respiratory and pulmonary medicine at the University of Alberta Hospital.

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form of this sleep disorder according to experts, in which the muscles in the upper airway, around the base of the tongue becomes so relaxed, they collapse and close off the air.

So, if you think your lack of sleep, the tired feeling, you experience even after what you think is a good nights sleep, you should probably consult a physician about the symptoms you’re going through, there are technique to help people suffering from sleep apnea.

Your brain may not be getting the deep REM sleep it requires to operate efficiently during the daylight hours, resulting in you falling asleep while driving or sitting at your work desk because you briefly wake up 30, 40 or even 50 times an hour during the night, even though your brain indicates your were asleep.

So, if you have a history of car crashes and can’t figure out why?, or have been battling with your boss for years over him finding you draped cross your desk in a prone position, it may not be your fault, you may have sleep apnea and need to talk to a physician about finding a solution to your problem.
